How Long Does It Take To Perform Auto Body Work?

When a vehicle requires auto body repair, a lot of car owners will ask, “How long does it take to perform auto body work?” The truth is, it all depends on the scope of the repair work. If your vehicle is a common model and the damage is relatively minor, the repairs will take a shorter time than if you are driving an older model vehicle that is harder to get parts for, or if the damage to your vehicle is quite extensive. For these reasons, we cannot commit to a repair timeframe without examining your vehicle, but we are happy to explain the steps it takes to complete the process.

Without going into the minutia of detail for every auto repair process, the main steps are as follows:

Step 1 = Contact your insurance carrier and schedule an assessment of your vehicle.

Step 2 = Go to CARSTAR Robert’s Collision in Monterey and get an estimate from our team for your insurance company’s review. Depending on the estimate of how long your vehicle will be under our care, you may arrange for a rental car so you can have uninterrupted transportation.

Step 3 = Once the estimate is approved by you and your insurance company, we begin disassembling the vehicle to identify all damage. If our auto body repair team sees additional damage that was not observed before disassembly, we will notify you and your insurance company for further approval and an adjustment of the estimate.

Step 4 = Next, we go into repair mode. We will order the necessary parts and begin the first quality assurance inspection.

Step 5 = Then, we will begin the painting process. Our paint department will smooth and sand the body of the vehicle, then apply primer, paint, and clearcoat to the finish. Once painted, the vehicle will go through a drying process using infrared heat, which speeds up the curing of the paint. Another quality assurance inspection takes place after the paint job.

Step 6 = The vehicle then gets reassembled and a final delivery date is confirmed.

Step 7 = Before returning the vehicle back to the owner, we will provide light detailing and a final quality assurance inspection.

Step 8 = Our team will notify you when your vehicle is ready for pick-up and we will accept payment at the completion of service.

Step 9 = At CARSTAR Robert’s Collision, we stand behind our work with a written lifetime warranty. We will correct any defects in body and paint workmanship free of charge, for as long as you own the vehicle. If you detect a defect, simply bring your vehicle to us. We’ll be happy to take care of it and get you back on the road quickly.
