Living in the wonderful climate of Monterey County, it is all too easy to overlook the importance of preparing our vehicles for winter conditions. We spend the majority of our year in wonderfully temperate weather, sunshiny days, and seaside charm. However, winter conditions can surprise us, and we want our vehicles to be ready for them when they do.

You don’t want to be stuck in a dangerous situation, thinking to yourself, “I shoulda done this,” or “man, I coulda done that.” Here are two major things to consider as the wetter months roll into Monterey County.

Blinded By The Rain - One of the most dangerous things that could happen to you in Monterey country is as simple as getting stuck in the rain with bad windshield wiper blades. One moment you are driving, and everything is fine; the next, you are caught in a downpour with no way to wipe the rain from your view, turning a seaside ride into a serious situation. Drivers often overlook this seemingly little thing as we approach the winter season. Your blades might have dried out in the summer sun and cracked, making it impossible to do their job. Or, they might be improperly attached and installed, which is why you want to test them and make sure they are ready for the rainy season.

Stuck In The Snow - Residents of Monterey County love to get out and experience the fresh air, which doesn’t change just because the weather gets cold! Trips up to the snow are a regular family pastime and a beloved experience for the family. Preparing for that snow trip can be the difference between a wonderful day and a terrible ordeal. Consider outfitting your vehicle with snow tires if you plan to drive across the snow for any given time and buy a set of snow chains for your standard set of tires. Snow tires have wider gaps on their surface, and that lets them grip the snow much better, snow chains work similarly, but they can wrap around and attach to your standard vehicle tires.

So, before December & January roll around, get your vehicle ready for the colder months. It might be rainy, fridged, and windy, but that doesn’t mean we can’t go out and get back home safe! Be sure to contact your trusted auto repair center if you have any questions about winter prep and if you need any help getting your vehicle set for the season.
