For Want of a Nail

Our old buddy Benjamin Franklin has a legendary quote that goes like this "For want of a nail, the shoe was lost." What it boils down to this; a seemingly small thing that we could easily overlook can turn into a much bigger problem, causing a cascading waterfall of events that all stem from one tiny omission.

The auto industry is the perfect example of old Benjamin's wisdom! Our vehicles are highly sophisticated marvels of engineering that need each and every part to function well. Overlooking a smaller detail can put you at risk and end up doing serious damage to your pocketbook. Take this story of a forgotten tire rotation as a cautionary tale.

I Shoulda Rotated My Tires:

A man and his family get themselves ready for their Central Valley road trip, ready to take a gander at the Yosemite peaks and valleys. He spins around the family vehicle, mentally reviewing his checklist, including fluid levels, windshield wiper blades, tire pressure, and stocking the road kit. When he finishes, the family jump in the car and head to Yosemite National Park to spend the weekend together.

It's a lively trip full of Spotify playlists, sightseeing, road trip snacks, and storytelling. Everything seems fine until suddenly the family is shocked by an explosive noise, one of the tires blows out, and they are forced to the side of the road. Everybody is safe, but when they assess the damage to the vehicle, it is obvious that the body of their vehicle took enormous damage and will need major repairs. When all is said and done, it looks like the blowout stemmed from simply not rotating the vehicle's tires.

Rotating your tires is very affordable and takes no time at all. It keeps the wear and tear on your tires even and enhances their longevity over time, keeping you and your family safer on the road. This family ended up paying thousands of dollars to repair the cosmetic damage to the body of their vehicle, and they could have avoided that by adding "Rotate my tires" to the road trip checklist.

I Shoulda Checked My Brakes:
Imagine this: you're cruising down the highway, wind in your hair, tunes blasting, when suddenly, traffic slows to a halt. You hit the brakes, but instead of smoothly coming to a stop, you hear a terrifying screech and feel a jolt. Your heart races as you narrowly avoid a collision. Later, at the mechanic, you discover your brake pads were worn down to the metal, risking not just your car but your safety too.

A simple brake check could have prevented this heart-stopping moment and saved you from a costly repair bill.

I Shoulda Changed My Oil:
Picture this scenario: you're on your way to an important meeting, already running late. Suddenly, your engine starts to sputter, and warning lights flash on your dashboard like a fireworks display. With a sinking feeling, you realize you should have changed your oil weeks ago. Neglecting this basic maintenance task has now left you stranded on the side of the road, facing expensive repairs and the embarrassment of missing your appointment.

A regular oil change might seem like a hassle, but it's a small price to pay to keep your engine running smoothly and your schedule on track.
