For this week's blog, we want to highlight some of the more common causes of auto collisions so that you can avoid being in an accident yourself. While commuting to work or going about your day, you may have witnessed an accident on the road and wondered why it happened. At CARSTAR Robert's Collision in Monterey, we care about your safety and want to point out some things to avoid while on the road.

Being able to identify hazards on the road or having the ability to react to avoid accidents requires attention and focus. It is important to remember that your life, your passenger's life, and the lives of other drivers around you can be affected by a mistake such as texting and driving. In this list, we have included some of the most common causes of auto collisions which you should avoid in order to prevent damage to your vehicle or bodily injuries.

  • Distracted driver -The use of an electronic device, such as your phone, can be a cause for distraction. Another means of distraction can be arguments with other passengers or daydreaming. It is important to always have your eyes on the road and avoid any possible distractions.

  • Speeding - When speeding, the time you have to react is shortened, which can cause an accident. Having people merging within lanes, or having careless drivers around you, shows that road conditions are constantly changing. Driving at the speed limit ensures you have as much time as possible to react to unexpected circumstances.

  • Under the influence - Being under the influence of drugs or alcohol has an incredibly high chance of impairing your ability to drive or operate machinery. For this reason, driving under the influence is extremely dangerous to you and other drivers around you and should be avoided.

  • Weather conditions - Slippery roads, strong winds, or even blurred visibility are some characteristics of bad weather conditions. While you can't control mother nature, you can prepare your vehicle for weather conditions that can arise. Some examples are having the right tires for the road you are driving on or having windshield wipers that will improve the visibility of the road ahead of you.
