As we reflect on 2020, we have hopes for a better year. Please, do not think that we are making any political statements in this week’s blog. Instead, our goal is to find the good in a yearlong, rough situation. We hope that in 2021, we will continue to remain healthy and fully employed, but we also wish for more travel opportunities and the ability to visit friends and family like we did before the Coronavirus. It’s a worthy goal, right?
It is easy to point out all of the things that didn’t go well in 2020. But there is a positive way to look at this year. This year forced us out of our comfort zones and made us find new ways of working, learning, and connecting with friends and family. We no longer take for granted live music, movie theaters, restaurants, amusement parks, and our very own Monterey Bay Aquarium. This year woke us up in many ways that we resisted. But we fully believe that the changes we saw due to COVID-19 are going to benefit us as we move toward the future.
To illustrate our point, here are five positive things that happened in 2020 that give us hope for better times in 2021:
Road trips in campers, RVs, and travel trailers have increased. RV sales and rentals have gone up dramatically, which means that more people are exploring our beautiful country.
More people prefer working from home and commuting less. This means less traffic, shorter commute times, fewer traffic jams, and fewer traffic accidents.
Online schooling has allowed families to have extended weekends. Some families are using online education as a means to travel longer on road trips since the kids are no longer mandated to appear on school campuses.
People are spending less and saving more. Yes, there is more unemployment and reduced wages. However, most people are reporting that they are building a larger savings because they are socializing less.
Home makeovers and improvement projects are on the rise. From updated interiors to cleaner closets, many renters and homeowners are focusing on making their dwellings more comfortable and organized. Take a walk through our local neighborhoods and you’ll see a number of street corners with free furniture that others may benefit from and utilize. 2020 has been a great year for sprucing up the home.
