The Labor Day holiday marks the final days of Summer. For many families, it’s that last chance to go on a road trip before school kicks into high gear. Many people will be hitting the road over the Labor Day weekend, so here are a few safe driving tips to keep in mind. Make sure you have a first aid kit stashed somewhere in your vehicle, just in case someone needs to mend a “boo-boo”. Traffic is going to be heavy, so try to hit the road earlier or later than everyone else. Make sure your tires have plenty of tread, are properly inflated, and that your spare tire is ready to be used at a moment’s notice. To get more fuel into your gas tank, try to fill up with gas in the early morning before the day gets hot. Be sure to pack lots of drinking water in the car so you and your passengers stay hydrated. Many of our clients ask if generic parts are inferior in quality to OEM (original equipment manufacturers) parts. The answer may surprise you. CAPA sets stringent standards for generic or competitive auto repair parts. That means the generic parts are tested for rust resistance, metal composition, welds, screws, and resistance to chipping & scratching before they are allowed to become CAPA-certified parts. Others ask if generic parts are unsafe. Whether parts are generic or OEM, crash parts do not affect the safety of the vehicle. With that said, crash tests performed by the critics of generic parts have shown that these parts perform no differently than OEM parts. All generic parts must pass the stringent tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. So, any generic part that successfully makes it to market is deemed safe.
